Timing is everything. Jaime Hathaway made her first appearance of the season in the Hamline women's hockey goal on Friday, giving up two goals in the final 25 minutes of the Pipers' 9-3 loss to Gustavus. That was enough to earn her first start the next afternoon when thje teams mket for the season finale in St. Peter.

And what a start it was.

The sophomore knocked away 36 shots as the Pipers battled the Gusties to a 1-1 OT tie. It marked the first point Hamline had ever taken from Gustavus in 33 women's hockey games.  In the process, it knocked the perennial power out of the playoffs. 

The Wisconsin native was particularly sharp in the first period when she successfully handled six shots during one GAC power play.

It was the capper to a turnaround season under first year head coach Natalie Darwitz. Hamline finished 9-13-3, a three-game improvement from the year before. They finished 6-10-2 in seventh place in the MIAC. That was a two game and a two place jump from the year before.
