Box Score It would be tough to beat any team that shoots 62 percent for the game. Throw in a 32-18 rebounding edge and it is nearly impossible to overcome.

Such was the case Wednesday night as Hamline's men's basketball team took charge early and overwhelmed Macalester, 80-53, at Leonard Center.

11 different Pipers saw double digit time  as HU raced to a 41-32 halftime and kept on motoring in the second half to improve to 3-2 in the MIAC, 6-4 overall.

Dior Ford and Austin Johnson shared the scoring honors for the Pipers. Ford scored 13 points and also led in rebounds with nine. Johnson was close behind with a dozen markers (10 in the first half) and eight boards.

Two other Pipers -- Tyler Pannell and Noah Aguirre-- continued their march up the school's all-time statistical lists. Pannnell, a junior, sank three three-pointers to tie Josh Hanson (2002-04) for third place on the all-time list with 112 for his careeer. Jeff Campell, who played here from 1997-2001, is second with 117. Aguirre, a senior, had a pair of steals to advcance his career total to 42, tying him for eighth place all-time with Chris Bloomquist, who also played here from 1997-2001.

Hamline sprinted to a 23-9 lead in the first 10 1/2 minutes of play and  rarely looked back. The Scots worked it back to six points late in the first half and got within eight at 54-46 with 14 minutes remaining. Hamline then ran off 10 unanswered points and sailed home the rest of the way.

The Pipers shot 62.3 per cent (33-53) for the night, including 8-15 from three-point range. They will aim for more of the same Saturday at 3:00 p.m. when they visit St. Peter to face Gustavus.
