Rested Women's Hoopsters Host Macalester

1/2/2013 12:08:00 PM

They  played on their home court only once in the 2012 part of their schedule. The Hamline women's basketball team will remedy that situation on January 2 when they welcome Macalester to historic Hutton Arena.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.

The Pipers' 2-3 MIAC mark (2-6 overall) puts them just one game out of the final playoff spot. Coincidentally, that place is where Macalester (3-2, 4-4) currently resides.

It will be the Pipers' first game since a December 14 loss at Northwestern (MN).

The Pipers boast the league's leading scorer in sharpshooting guard Jordan Sammons, who is lighting up opponents at a 14.6 points per game pace. The sophomore also ranks fourth in rebounds at 7.8.

After dropping their conference opener to St. Thomas, the Scots recovered to win three of their last four games. Although they have struggled a bit on offense (averaging just 51.8 points per game), Macalester has been excellent on defense, holding foes to just 55 points a game, the second lowest total in the league.

Wednesday's game starts a five games in 10 days sprint for the Pipers. On Saturday, January 5, they travel to Gustavus (5-0, 6-2). St. Kate's visits Hutton on Monday, January 7 before the Pipers hit road again for games at St. Olaf (January 9) and Concordia (January 12).
