Box Score It got a little tight at the end but the Hamline women's hockey team withstood a late surge for a 3-2 win over St. Benedict Thursday night at Warner Coliseum. The win vaulted the Pipers out of the cellar into a tie with the Blazers for seventh place in the MIAC with identical 2-6-1 standards.

The teams meet again Saturday in St. Cloud at 2:00 p.m.

Chelsea Koehn (27 at left of picture) scored a pair of goals and Jordan Verleye added a solo to help HU build a 3-0 lead seven minutes into the third period.

CSB then went to work on Piper goalie Sarah Schneekloth, testing her with 18 shots in the final period alone. She was beaten twice  (once on a power play) but stayed calm at the end ... even though the Blazers played with the extra attacker for their goalie for the final 90 seconds of the game. She finished the night with 35 saves.

Koehn continued to burnish her standin as one of the top freshmen in the league. She opened the scoring on a three way passing play with Megan Gjere (front right of picture) and Corinne Henning 15:09 into the game.

Verleye added her sixth marker in the waning seconds of the middle period to make it 2-0 and Koehn seemingly put the game out of reach with her second of the night (and team high 11th of the season) at 7:10 of the third period. She now has 15 total points, easily the best total of any first year player and tied for fourth overall in the league.

The Blazers, however, scored less than a minute later before adding the power play tally with 3:37 left.

The Pipers stopped them cold the rest of the way. They have just one loss in their six games and have improved their overall mark to 5-8-3.
