Schneekloth Stands Out In Scoreless Tie

1/26/2013 5:43:00 PM

Box Score Thanks to a sterling effort by goalie Sarah Schneekloth (pictured), Hamline women's hockey team did a first today. Schneekloth stopped 42 shots, including five in OT as Hamline and St. Benedict's played a 0-0 tie Saturday in St. Cloud.

HU head coach Steve DeBus said of the first scorless tie in school history, "It was one of the best games I have ever seen."

Schneekloth was superb from the start, handling 16 in the first period alone. She was calle dupon to kick out a dozen in the third period.

The Pipers had their scoring chances, too -- firing 32 shots on goal. 16 of those came in a frenetic second period that saw the Pipers get three power plays. They had a two-player advantage for 57 seconds.

But, as was the case when the Blazers had the player advantage, no goals were to be had. Chelsea Koehn led HU with six shots on goal. The Pipers moved into a three-way tie for seventh place with six points (2-6-2) and have an overall mark of 5-8-4. They have just one loss in their last seven games.

Hamline faces league leader Gustavus Adolphus next weekend. The teams play Friday in St. Peter and Saturday at Warner Coliseum.
