Box Score Hamline's women's basketball team saved their best for the last half of the game. That's when they outscored Macalester by a 44-22 margin to break away for a 70-52 victory Wednesday night at Hutton Arena.

Jordan Sammons led the way with a double-double (25 points, 10 rebounds) but she received able assistance from Steph Pilgrim, who fired in 17 points, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Cassidy Vogt added 10 points and six rebounds as HU climbed back to .500 in MIAC play at 3-3.

The Pipers trailed 30-26 at intermission but came out smoking at the start of the second half. Pilgrim's jumper, which gave HU the lead at 34-32 with 14:52 remaining, was part of 16-2 Piper run that put Hamline in charge of the game. HU pushed their lead to as many as 21 points in the late going.

It was the Pipers' third straight conference conquest and improved their overall mark to 3-6. Hamline will try to go north of the .500 mark when they play at Gustavus Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
