Box Score
You get to the playoffs when everybody contributes a little bit. The HU women's basketball team got some help when they needed it from everybody to hold off Macalester, 52-43, at Leonard Center Wednesday night.
Hamline's fourth straight road win -- their longest streak in four years -- vaulted them into undisouted possession of sixth place with a 9-7 MIAC mark (9-10 overall). With six games to go, the Pipers now lead St. Olaf by one game for the final playoff position.
Kara Poirier continued her hot shooting with her fourth straight double digit effort. Poirier scored 15 points to lead all scorers. She also chipped in with five assists to tie for second all-time in school history with 226.
Je'Naya Brown (pictured) , her fellow backcourter, led HU in rebounds with 11.
Steph Pilgrim added 14 points while
Jordan Sammons did her part with nine points and eight rebounds.
Cassidy Vogt
hit a three-pointer among her seven for the night with four boards.
The Pipers started fast, jumping to a 23-6 lead in the first 12 minutes. By halftime, the margin was a seemingly comfortable 34-14. The Scots clawed back to 48-41 with 4:39 left but both teams suddenly went cold and there were no points for the next 3 1/2 minutes. When the spell was broken, it was Sammons and Poirier stretching the lead to 11.
The 43 points allowed marked the best Pipers' defensive effort since 2010 when they opened the season by holding Northwestern (MN) to 42 points.
Hamline now plays four of its next five games at home, starting with Gustavus Adolphus (11-5 MIAC, 12-7 overall) this Saturday, February 2 at 1:00 p.m.
