Box Score Steph Pilgrim and
Jordan Sammons were double trouble for St. Catherine Monday night at Hutton Arena. Pilgrim had a game high 22 points and 12 rebounds and sammons was close behind with 20 markers and a dozen boards as the Pipers jumped to an early lead and overran the Wildcats, 70-48.
Hamline shook off a loss at Gustavus Saturday to improve to 4-4 in the MIAC, 4-7 overall. The Pipers are currently in sixth place, the last playoff spot as the season passes the one-third pole.
Pilgrim, who is second in th eleague with a 15.2 point per game average, had the hot hand early, scoring 17 points in the first half as HU raced to a 35-15 intermission edge. The Pipers clamped down on the Wildcats, who didn't reach double digits until there was 1:21 left in the half. St. Kate's was held to just 20 per cent shooting in the opening 20 minutes.
Cassidy Vogt was particularly tough, blocking four shots.
Sammons, who leads the league with a 15.5 ppg, was no slouch herself in the game's opening canto, registering 14 points. She also had four of her game high five steals in that segment.
HU kept the Wildcats at bay in the second half, leading by as many as 29 points before settling in for the final result.
The 48 points marked a season low for the defense.
Hamline, which has won four of its last six games, now heads out on the road for a pair of games the rest of the week. They play at St. Olaf (3-5, 5-6) Wednesday and go to Concordia next Saturday.
