Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 It was a break from the rugged MIAC schedule. But it was no picnic for the Hamline volleyball team. A balanced offensive attack plus a stellar defensive performance proved to be a solid combination as the Pipers defeated Moravian, 3-1 and swept away St. Scholastica, 3-0, Saturday at Hutton Arena.

Sam Greeney-Hamlin inched closer to 1,000 career kills with 25 in the two matches. The senior has 983 for her career and stands 8th all time in schools annals.

Greeney-Hamlin had 11 kills in the 25-19, 19-25, 25-23, 25-15 win over the Greyhounds in the day's opening match. But she was one of four Pipers in double figures. Katie Ayres (pictured, 17) led the way with 14 kills while Stephanie Kaup and Michelle Mattke had 10 apiece. The Pipers hit .273 for the match, finishing with a flourish with a .433 mark in the fourth set.

On the other side of the ledger, Molly Hurrle was in excellent form with 51 assists and 10 digs. Lynsey Reimer led with 14 digs while Miquel Green delivered 11.

Later in the afternoon, Greeney-Hamlin delivered 14 kills as the Pipers defeated the Saints, 25-18, 15-14, 25-19.  Thanks in part to 14 total blocks, the Pipers put the clamps on the Saints, holding to a .085 hitting percentage. Hurrle had 39 assists with Reimer and Green tying for the team lead with 17 digs each.

Hurrle and Reimer continued to be among the league leaders in their specialties. Hurrle is third in the MIAC with an average of 10.95 per set and sits fourth overall with 690 assists. Reimer, who passed the 1,000 dig barrier last weekend, stands third overall with 418 digs and fourth in the MIAC at 4.92 digs per set.

Hamline now stands 14-10 overall and 3-3 in the MIAC, good for a tie for fourth place. They return to conference action October 18 when they host Bethel (11-13, 2-4 MIAC) at Hutton Arena in a 7:00 p.m. match.
