Box Score The final result was not what was hoped for. But Hamline guard
Marshall Jestings can't be blamed if he looks back fondly on a chilly Saturday afternoon in Northfield.
The junior guard, who made his first career start, scored a career high 15 points in the Pipers' 72-68 loss at Carleton. It was the first time in Jestings' time at Hamline that he has scored in double figures. He was one of four Pipers to do so at West Gym.
Dior Ford corralled 14 points and added five rebounds while
Zach Moll (also a first time starter) and
Austin Johnson contributed 11 points apiece.
Jestings and Moll showed the way is the first 20 minutes of play. Each scored eight points as Hamline forged a 36-32 halftime edge.
Carleton rallied to go ahead early in the second but Moll and Jestings each hit three pointers to ignite a 13-0 run that pushed HU to a 57-45 lead with 10:53 remaining.
The Knights pushed back hard, though, eventually taking the lead in the final two minutes and going on for the win to lower Hamline to 2-3 overall, 0-2 in the MIAC.
The Pipers shot well from the field (53.8 percent) and held a solid 8-2 margin in steals but lost the battle of the boards, 29-20.
Hamline needs to regroup in a hurry. They are in the midst of a five game in 11 day blitz that will see them host St. John's at Hutton Arena on Monday, December 9. They will play at St. Thomas December 11 and Concordia December 14.
