Box Score The Hamline women's basketball team put up a determined effort but fell one point short in a 79-78 loss at St. Benedict Monday night.
Jordan Sammons, who leads all of Division III women's basketball in scoring had another bigtime night with 28 points and her second straight 16 rebound game.
She had help from freshman
Chelsey Bonsante, who had a career high 27 points and
Chloe Graves, who fired in 15. It was almost enough to topple the Blazers, who are 4-2 overall.
The game started well. Hamline led nearly the entire first half, going to the locker room with a 38-35 edge. The Blazers started strong inthe second half and crept ahead by five only to see HU come back and regain the lead at 72-71 when Sammons drilled a three-pointer with 5:15 remaining.
CSB went back ahead 77-75 only to see Sammons hit another three-pointer with 31 seconds left for a 78-77. Unfortunately, CSB scored again and Sammons' late jumper frustratingly missed the mark.
Hamline, now 0-4 overall (0-3 MIAC) gets to play at home for just the second time this season when they host St. Thomas at Hutton Arena Wednesday night. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The Pipers play at Concordia Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
