Box Score It wasn't easy. But very little is at this time of year. Hamline's women's basketball team ended the regular season on an upbeat note, outlasting Carleton, 66-60, in overtime to finish in a tie for 5th place in the conference.
The Pipers' 14-8 mark (14-11 overall) means they end up deadlocked with Gustavus Adolphus. But HU wins out on tiebreakers and will head to St. Joseph, Minn. to face fourth seed St. Benedict on Tuesday, February 19.
Game time at Claire Lynch Hall is 7:30 p.m.
Steph Pilgrim (pictured) hit all six of her free throw attempts in the extra period as past of her game high 22 points as Hamline extended a school record with its sixth straight road win. It was a tight game all the way. Hamline held a brief five-point lead but settled for a 22-21 intermission edge. When
Je'Naya Brown hit a three-pointer for a 54-48 lead with 2:50 to go, things looked good for HU. But the Knights refused to go away and came back to tie the game for a 13th time with 10 seconds remaining.
Sammons broke the tie for good in the first minute of overtime and HU never trailed again.
They will play in the postseason for just the fourth time in school history. They made the playoffs in 2006, 2008 and 2009. Each time, they lost in the first round.
They have never played the Blazers (18-6, 16-5 MIAC) in the postseason.
The teams played Nov. 28 in St. Joseph with St. Ben's taking a 87-72 decision. It was a much tighter game Jan. 16 in St. Paul with the Blazers holding off a late charge for a 64-55 decision.
