Early Lead Not Enough as Men's Hockey Falls at Gustavus

2/2/2013 11:32:00 PM

Box Score Great start. The finish? Not so good. Such was the case for the HU men's hockey team in a 4-2 loss at Gustavus Saturday night.

The evening started well as Kevin Novakovich (pictured with puck) and Grant Fahnhorst scored 19 seconds apart in the first five minutes of play for a quick 2-0 lead.

HU held that lead for a period. They gave up a second period tally and then three in the final period to take the loss.

Hamline carried the play often, holding a 31-29 edge in shots on goal for the game. Matt Hemingway recorded 25 stops on the night, allowing three goals with the last one going into the empty net.

The Pipers are 1-17-5 overall and finish the season next week with two games at Concordia.
