Box Score As Hamline coach
Doc DelCastillo begins to think about next season, it is likely he will have
Kevin Novakovich (with puck) penciled in for serious ice time.
The freshman forward had a big night with a goal and two assists but the Pipers couldn't hold off a late Concordia charge and succumbed to a 5-3 setback Friday night at Moorhead Sports Center.
Hamline (1-18-5 overall, 1-11-3 MIAC) got off to a great start, jumping to a 2-0 lead on a pair of power play goals in the first eight minutes of play before the Cobbers began to rally.
Novakovich was a tablesetter early. He fed
Joe Rubbelke for the latter's seventh goal of the season 2:36 into the game. At 7:50, he and Rubbelke worked the puck to
Brandon Zurn, who converted for his eighth marker.
The Cobbers tied the game with two in the second and took a lead in the final frame. Zurn and
Grant Fahnhorst combined to set up Novakovich for the tying tally at 6:52. The Cobbers, however, untied it for good five minutes later and added an empty net tally with six seconds left.
Matt Hemingway had 28 saves for Hamline.
HU finishes the season Saturday in Moorhead with a 2:00 p.m. game.
