Box Score Andrew Herbert (pictured No. 12) gave the Piper coaching staff something else to consider for the 2013-14 season. The sophomore scored his first two goals of the season as the men's hockey team wrapped up the current campaign with a 3-2 loss to Concordia in Moorhead.
Hamline ends their frist season under coach
Doc DelCastillo with a 1-19-5 mark, 1-12-3 in the MIAC. But eight of those losses were by two goals or less ... and the season finale was no exception.
Herbet opened the scoring on a three-way play with
Brandon Zurn and
Joe Rubbelke. The Cobbers worked their way into a 2-1 lead when Herbert and Rubbelke teamed up to tie the game at 9:28. Concordia scored the winning tally three minutes later.
Matt Hemingway had 20 saves in goal for HU, which loses just two players (
Dominic Chiapelli, Kirk Olimb) to graduation.
Rubbelke, a sophomore defenseman, ended up the team leader in points with 21. He currently leads all MIAC blueliners as well in that department. Zurn has been a fireplug all season. His eight goals topped the Pipers and his 20 poins is among the best totals of all first year players in the league.
