In their first game in a month, the Hamline men's hockey team outshot and, for much of the night, outplayed St. Scholastica. But the Saints took advantage of some key breaks and stole out of Oscar Johnson Arena with a 3-2 OT decision Friday night.

Cole Mason and Joe Rubbelke (7)  had the HU goals as part of a 29-shot assault. Nick Heimer recorded 21 saves in goal against CSS, which improved to 9-3-2 on the season while Hamline fell to 1-10-1.

Mason opened the scoring 3:57 into the second period when he finished off a nifty three way play with Zach Johnson and Anthony Wolfe. It stayed 1-0 until the Saints burst through with two goals 21 seconds apart late in the same session.

Hamline picked up the attack and pressed the issue in the third period. But the game remained stuck at 2-1 until Rubbelke made a highlight reel end-to-end rush and picked the corner at 15:25 to knot the score at 2.

HU then got a late power play but the Saints held firm to force the OT. They scored from a scramble in front of Heimer 49 seconds into the period to claim the win.

The Pipers will have to shake this one off in a hurry. They return to action Saturday at 2:05 p.m. against Northland at Oscar Johnson.
