Box Score
This is something the Piper women's basketball team could learn to get used to in a hurry. Jordan Sammons scored 24 points and snared 14 rebounds (her 12th double-double of the season) and Makenzie Lee (pictured with ball) added 14 points -- including five key second half markers -- as Hamline made it two wins in a row with a 66-58 triumph over St. Catherine at Butler Center Monday night.
HU improved to 4-12 overall (3-10 MIAC) with the come-from-behind triumph.Â
The Pipers led 29-25 at halftime. HU bumped the lead to six points at 31-25 only to see the Wildcats go on a 16-3 sprint and take a seven point lead at 41-34 with 12:23 remaining in the game.Â
Rachel Usgaard  hit a pair of free throws to spark a comeback that tied the score at 45 three minutes later. The game went back and forth from there with SCU moving ahead 52-50 when Lee went to work. She hit a three-pointer to put HU ahead (for good as it turned out) at 53-52 and later added a pair of free throws. A steal and an Erika Moede trey made it 58-52 and the Pipers stayed in front the rest of the way.
HU, which connected on 16 of 22 free throws, made four charity tosses in the final minute to seal the deal.
Hamline returns to action Wednesday night when they host St. Benedict at Hutton Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
