Box Score The Hamline football team continues to explode on offense. HU made powerful St. Thomas sweat for a while, running up 459 yards and three touchdowns in what ended up as a 62-24 defeat Saturday at Klas Field.Â
Tim Bona threw for a career high 345 yards and two TDs andÂ
Austin Duncan rushed 102 yards and a score to lead the offensive explosion.Â
The Tommies, however, blew a tight game open with four second quarter scores, finishing with 526 yards in their own right.
UST had allowed just one score all season in the first quarter. The visitors jumped to a 14-0 lead only to see HU take advantage of aÂ
Jack Swanberg interception return to go 13 yards in three plays.Â
Ray Culp made his first college catch one to remember, grabbing an eight yard Bona strike to get Hamline on the board. After the Tommies scored, the Pipers went 76 yards in six plays with Duncan bulldozing his way in from seven yards out and it was 21-14 at the quarter.Â
St. Thomas took advantage of a pair of turnovers to garner 27 points in the second stanza and lead 48-14 at halftime.Â
In the third quarter, Bona (with ball) connected withÂ
Hoyfal Adam for a third quarter TD.Â
Forrest Coughlin finished the Piper scoring with a field goal midway in the fourth quarter.  Bona's final total of 345 yards in the air was just 30 short of the school record. It is also the most passing yards the nationally rated Tommies (4-1 overall, 3-1 MIAC) has allowed to a conference foe in six years.
Duncan had his 16th 100-yard plus game of his career in 22 carries. Despite being keyed on all day by UST, he was not stopped for a rushing loss all day. He ranks second in the MIAC at 141.2 yards per game. The school's all-time leader in rushing yards, he now has 3,175 for his career.Â
The Pipers (2-4 overall, 0-4 MIAC) play their fourth nationally ranked team in a row next Saturday when they visit Concordia (6-1, 4-1 MIAC) in Moorhead. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
