Box Score It didn't take long for Jordan Verleye to show she still has the scoring touch. Last year's leading scorer picked up where she left off, scoring a nifty backhand shot midway in the second period to lift Hamline's women's hockey team to a 1-1 OT tie with St. Catherine at Oscar Johnson Arena.

The Pipers (0-1-1) outshot the Wildcats in every period, finishing with a 40-23 edge. But they couldn't break through until Verleye sped up the left side, took a pass from Chelsea Koehn and whipped a shot home at 10:55 of the second period. This offset a first period pp goal by the Wildcats. It was the only blemish on HU netminder Katie Beckman, making her first start of the season.

Hamline had an excellent chance to take the lead in the third period when they were awarded a pair of power plays 30 seconds apart.. But SCU goalie Kristen Pecachek, playing her first college game, held them off. HU even had an edge in the extra session, firing two shots to the Wildcats' one.

HU returns to action next weekend with a home and home series against conference favorite Gustavus Adolphus. The teams meet in St. Peter Friday night. On Saturday, the scene shifts to Oscar Johnson.
