Box Score The veteran and the new kid on the block took care of most of the scoring. And everyone pitched in on defense.

The result was that Hamline's women's basketball team made it five wins in their last six games with a 66-55 decision over Northwestern in Roseville Monday night.

HU is now 5-3 on the season after posting their best statistical defensive effort of the season.

The veteran AKA Jordan Sammons provided much of the first half offensive spark as HU bolted to a 37-26 intermission edge. Sammons had a double-double by halftime with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Her teammates smothered the Eagles on the boards (a 29-20 advantage) and held their hosts to 34.5 shooting from the floor.

In the second half, it was the new kid AKA Alex Peterson (24) who joined Sammons as an offensive force. The St. Paul, MN freshman scored 10 of her career high 16 points in the second session and duplicated her first half efforts with five rebounds. It was her first college double-double.

The Pipers never trailed in this game and led by as many as 16 points in the second half. The Eagles, who took the Pipers to overtime last month, were constantly pressured when they had the ball and finished the night shooting just 33 percent (19-57). HU also had a 52-41 rebounding edge and registered their fifth double digit steal effort of the year (tying their season high with 15).

As for Sammons, she finished with 26 points and a career high 19 rebounds. The Burnsville, Minn. native, who was named MIAC Women's BB AOW for the second time this year earlier in the day, moved into third place all-time in school history in scoring with 1483 points. She also became the fifth player in HU history to go over 700 career rebounds. Her seven steals on the night gave her 238 for her career, 10 behind all-time ballhawk Renae  Mueller, who played here from 1993-97.

The Pipers have one more game before the holiday break. They travel to St. Peter Saturday, December 13 to face Gustavus Adolphus (5-2 overall) in a MIAC game. Like the Pipers, GAC stands 1-1 in MIAC play.
