Box Score
It is a rarity in MIAC college basketball. Hamline had two players -- Dior Ford and Austin Johnson -- register double-doubles for the Pipers in a 71-67 OT loss at Macalester.
Ford, who played all 45 minutes, unleashed 26 points with 10 rebounds while Johnson scored 11-- including two free throws that forced the extra session -- and corralled 17 boards. The latter total is a career high for the junior and the most by a HU player since Carl Hipp registered the same number in a 2011 game at Carleton.
The game started well for Hamline. They jumped to an 8-3 lead in the first three minutes of play. HU stayed ahead most of the first 20 minutes but wen tinto the locker room deadlocked at 33.
The Scots started the second half fast and Hamline soon found himself in a nine-point hole at 46-37 with 12 1/2 minutes left. It was 51-40 when back to back three pointers by Marshall Jestings (who scored a career high 18 points) and Johnson got the Pipers within shouting distance. Jestings' three-pointer with 1:38 left pushed Hamline ahead by 60-59. Macalester answered with a threepointer for a 62-60 edge. Johnson's tosses tied the game with 44 seconds left, forcing overtime.
Ford's jumper with 1:56 left tied the game at 64. The Scots then scored five points in a row and the Pipers could get no closer than two the rest of the way.
Hamline is now 8-11 overall, 5-9 in the MIAC. They will host St. Thomas Monday night at Hutton Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
