All in all, it was a very good eight days for the Hamline women's basketball team. Four players hit double digits as the Pipers made it three wins in four games with a solid 82-71 victory over Macalester at Leonard Center Saturday.
Jordan Sammons recorded her 14th double-double of the season with 28 points and 10 rebounds. But she had plenty of company on the offensive side. Rachel Usgaard, who led the way in the first half, fired in 15 with Chloe Graves (13) and Chelsey Bonsante (10) also hitting in double figures.
The Pipers trailed 25-23 with 4:33 left in the half when Sammons converted a three-point play to kickstart a burst that ended with HU going to the locker room with a 39-32 lead.
The Scots hung in there, cutting the margin to three at one point. It was a tense four-point game at 68-64 with 5:53 left. Bonsante knocked in a three-pointer and the Piperstook off from there, leading by as many as 13 in the late going.
Hamline held a 34-24 edge in the points in the paint as their record improved to 5-13 overall (4-11 MIAC). They will continmue a string of games against their St. Paul neighbors when they travel to St. Thomas Monday night. St. Catherine comes to Hutton Arena Wednesday night. Both games will begin at 7:30 p.m.
