Box Score They have been together through a lot in the last three years. One has been fortunate to remain healthy. The other has had to battle a series of injuries.Â
But bothÂ
Jordan Sammons andÂ
Je'Naya Brown (pictured with ball) play the game the same way -- relentlessly and fearlessly.
Just ask St. Catherine.
Sammons scored 21 points, had seven rebounds and seven steals while playing all 40 minutes in Hamline's 59-48 win Wednesday night at Hutton Arena. Sammons, who leads the MIAC in points and steals, now has 191 theft for her career at HU -- fifth on the all-time list.
Brown has been making a recovery from the preseason injury that kept her out of the lineup for the first nine games of the season. The senior played just 14 minutes but made a big impact with 11 points, a pair of rebounds and three steals as the Pipers came up with their best defensive effort of the season to improve to 6-14 overall (5-12 MIAC). Her thievery pushed her career total to 209, third on the all-time list.
Hamline's fourth win in their last six games was accomplished despite being outrebounded by 41-29. HU made up for that deficiency by clamping down on SCU and holding them to just 39.5 per cent shooting.
The Wildcats led most of the first half until Sammons scored seven straoight points for a 25-21 edge. But SCU came back with the final six points of the hald for a 27-25 edge at intermission.Â
Emily Behrman got the second half off to bang with a three-pointer to put the Pipers ahead 28-27. As it developed, they never gave up the lead again. Brown's three-pointer midway through the half pushed the margin to nine at 38-29. SCU could only cut it to seven a few times after that.
The Pipers were playing their seventh game in 15 days but still managed to come up with 15 steals. Hamline gets two days off now before hosting Bethel Saturday at Hutton Arena. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
