Box Score It was a day for offense at Hollingsworth Field in St. Peter. Hamline did its part, rolling up 339 yards for the afternoon. Unfortunately for the Pipers, the Gusties did their part, too en route ot a 48-19 victory in the MIAC opener for both teams.

Tim Bona completed 20 of 36 pass attempts for 222 yards and a touchdown. He conncted with TE Phillip Sherman six times for 63 yards to top all Piper receivers. Austin Duncan carred the ball 20 times for 99 yards and a score as well. But GAC QB Mitch Hendricks was on fire, throwing for 443 yards and four scores as the Pipers took their first loss of the season,

The Gusties jumped to a 21-0 second quarter lead when HU embarked on a 70-yard eight play drive that ended with Duncan finding the end zone from a dozen yards away. Bona was sharp on this drive, completing three passes for 10 yards or more, including a 25 yarder to Nick Kampa. Forrest Coughlin added the extra point to make it 21-7.  Later in the same quarter, HU scored again as Bona hooked up with Hoyfal Adam for an 18 yard TD.

Duncan hit paydirt again in the third quarter with a nine yard run. The junior inched closer to Monroe Walker's school record for rushing yards in a career. Duncan has gained 2,817 yards on 556 carries in 23 games. He needs just 82 yards to pass Walker's career total of 2,898 yards. The drive was set up by Adam's 47 yard kickoff return, the longest by a HU back in three seasons.

Anthony Hill, Zach Schwalbach and Darrian Smith had 10 tackles each. Hill also had three pass breakups.

Hamline has a bye next weel. They return to action Oct. 4 when they travel to Collegeville toi face St. John's. Last year, they led the Johnnies in the fourth quarter before succumbing, 24-21.
