Garvis Ties Career High In MBB Loss at St. Olaf

1/10/2015 4:51:00 PM

Box Score Quinton Garvis had the hot early hand but MIAC co-leader St. Olaf had too much balance and defeated the Piper men's basketball team, 76-58 Saturday afternoon in Northfield.

The freshman guard tied his career high with 15 points and Dior Ford added a dozen for Hamline, now 5-7 on the season (2-5 MIAC). The Oles, however, showed how they got to 11-1 overall (6-1 MIAC) with a multi-pronged attack. STO shot 59 per cent in the first half alone (and 50 per cent for the game). HU shot a respectable 45 per cent and outrebounded the Oles, 33-27.

Garvis, a freshman guard, tossed in three three-pointers as Hamline grabbed a 15-13 lead seven minutes into the game. The Oles responded with a 10-2 run to regain the lead at 23-17 and kept the pressure on the rest of the half, finishing with a 42-29 advantage. In the second half, HU whittled the margin to 11 points but could get no closer. Austin Johnson was once again a rebounding force, snaring eight to lead all players.

The Pipers now return to Hutton Arena next week for a pair of games. They host Carleton (4-7, 1-5 MIAC) Wednesday, January 14 at 7:00 p.m. League co-leader St. Thomas visits on Saturday, January 17 at 3:00 p.m.
