Box Score Hamline shook off a halftime deficit but couldn't hang on and dropped a tight 52-49 women's basketball game to Augsburg Wednesday night at Hutton Arena.
Jordan Sammons inched closer to becoming the school's all-time leading scorer with a team high 15 points. The senior is just 11 behind the school's all-time leader
Mary Wilkowski, who scored 1658 points from 2007-11. Sammons also had a team high eight rebounds and a pair of steals.
Chloe Graves (3) added 10 points and three assists but the Pipers lost their second game in a row and fell to 4-5 in MIAC play at the midseason point.
Hamline (9-7 overall) recovered quickly from trailing 33-25 at intermission. After giving up the second half's first basket, HU scored 13 unanswered points in a six minute to take a 38-35 lead. The Auggies fought back with five in a row and the battle was on. There were eight ties in all. The Pipers grabbed a 49-47 lead on a Sammons layup with 2:49 remaining. But the Auggies came back to get the last five points of the game to get the decision.
The Pipers were buoyed by the return of
Makenzie Lee, who had missed the last three games due to injury. Lee and her teammates held the Auggies to just 18 second half points.
HU returns to action Saturday with a game at Concordia. The Pipers beat the Cobbers, 69-61, at Hutton December 6.
