Mens Hockey Loses First MIAC Game

1/23/2015 10:16:00 PM

Box Score It was closer than the final score indicated. But a loss is still a loss. The Hamline men's hockey team put up a stiff fight Friday but lost their first MIAC game of the season, 4-1, to St. Thomas before a full house at Oscar Johnson Arena.

Charlie Adams (9) had the lone HU goal in the third period as the Pipers attempted to rally from a two-goal deficit. But two empty net tallies sealed their fate and Hamline fell to 3-1-3 in the MIAC, 7-5-4 overall.

The Tommies scored a goal in each of the first two periods and held HU to just nine shots on goal. The Pipers loosened up in the third when Adams took a feed from Mitch Hall and buried his sixth of the season at 4:10. HU kept up the pressure all period, firing 13 shots on goal in all but was unable to dent the UST goalie. John Sellie-Hanson, who played a solid game in goal for HU, was pulled for a sixth attacker in the late going. The Tommies hit the empty cage twice to widen the margin.

The teams meet again Saturday night in Mendota Heights. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
