Zurn Gets Lone Marker in M Hockey Loss at Concordia

1/31/2015 5:55:00 PM

Box Score Brandon Zurn is heating up again. The junior winger scored for the second game in a row but the HU men's hockey team lost a 4-1 decision at Concordia Saturday afternoon.

The Pipers got another excellent effort from goalie John Sellie-Hanson, who batted away 35 shots (28 in the first two periods alone) as HU finished with a split of the weekend series in Moorhead. Hamline is 8-7-4 overall and 4-3-3 in the MIAC. Their point total of 16 places them in a tie for sixth place with Gustavus Adolphus. The Pipers have played two less games than the Gusties.

But they are just two points behind Augsburg and St. John's (who are tied for fourth) and just three away from third place St. Mary's. Ironically, those are the three teams remaining on the HU schedule.

CC led 2-0 in the third period when Zurn (22) finished off a power play at 6:05 for his eighth goal of the season. Joe Rubbelke, who scored the game winning goal in Friday's 2-0 decision and Brandon Reinholz drew the assists. That was as close as Hamline would get. CC scored twice in the final 10 minutes to put the game away. Kevin Novakovich led Hamline's 29 shot attack with six.

HU faces St. John's (9-5-5, 5-3-2 MIAC) this weekend. The teams play Friday, February 6 at the National Sports Center and Saturday, February 7 at Oscar Johnson Arena. Both games begin at 7:00 p.m.
