Box Score For the second week in a row, Hamline ran into an angry football team coming off a loss. Bethel, still smarting from a loss the week before at Concordia, jumped to a 34-0 first half lead and defeated the Pipers, 41-7 in Arden Hills Saturday.
The Pipers got 53 yards on the ground from
Brendan Nachtrieb and 66 yards receiving from
Philip Sherman (including a TD reception) but hit the midway point of the season with a 2-3 overall mark (0-3 MIAC).
Luke Lindquist was 5-for-16 with a TD pass in his first start ever at quarterback. In the second half, freshman
Justice Spriggs stepped behind center and completed nine of 15 passes for 124 yards.
Anthony Hill stood out on defense. In addition to a team high eight tackles, he had an interception and a tackle for loss. Hill also returned a pair of kickoffs for 50 yards.
BU grabbed a 14-0 first quarter advantage and pushed it to 34-0 when Lindquist connected with Sherman for his second TD reception of the season late in the first half. Hill set this up with a 27 yard interception return to the BU 26. Sherman and
Naji El-Araby were the top receivers with four each. WR
Nick Kampa was held to one second reception but it was also the Pipers' longest play of the day -- a 32 yarder.
The Pipers are on the road again, playing at undefeated St. Thomas on Saturday, October 17. Game time is 1:10 p.m.
