Box Score Mitch Hall apparently liked the extra ice time. The sophomore defenseman drew more shifts than usual when fellow bluelinerÂ
Jonny Gehrt was injured in the first period of Saturday's game with UW-Superior. Hall made it worth his while, whistling a shot through traffic at 1:19 of overtime to send the Piper men's hockey team to a 5-4 win over the Yellowjackets at Oscar Johnson Arena.Â
HU, ranked 15th in the USCHO.com poll improved to 3-1-2 overall despite being outshot by 13th ranked UWS by a 39-35 margin.Â
It was back and forth affair. No team led by more than a goal. There were four ties.Â
Justin Quale, making his third straight start in goal, came up big in the third period, dismissing all 13 shots sent his way.
The night started well withÂ
Charlie Adams andÂ
Mitch McPherson recording first period markers for a 2-1 lead. UWS tied it on a power play in the second period only to seeÂ
Brandon Zurn untie it when he finished off a breakaway for his 8th of the season (tops in the conference) at 12:00.Â
UWS, however, came on strong at the end of the period to score twice for a 4-3 lead.Â
Jaycob McCombs evened the game for a fourth time on a power play 4:24 into the third period.Â
It stayed that way into the extra session when Hall, who also had three assists in the game and is tied for the league lead with eight, took a pass fromÂ
Kevin Novakovich and found an opening for his second goal in as many games.
HU now returns to MIAC play next week with a pair of games against St. John's. The teams meet in St. Cloud on Thursday, Nov. 19 and have a rematch at Oscar Johnson on Saturday, November 21. Both games start at 7:00 p.m.Â
