Box Score Being an All-American brings a lot of responsibilities. One of those is helping your team end a mini-losing streak.Â
Charlie Adams did just that Wednesday, scoring a goal and adding two assists as Hamline's men's hockey team snapped a two-game skid with a 3-1 win at UW-Superior Wednesday, Adams, a senior center, is tied with teammate
Brandon Zurn as the top point man in Division III this year with 19 points.Â
He had a goal and two assists (as did his senior linemate Zurn) as the Pipers improved to 4-3-2 with the win at Wessman Arena.
HU scored once in each period and outshot the Yellowjackets, 43-32 to win in Superior for the second year in a row.Â
The game was scoreless until Adams won a faceoff toÂ
Garrett Schmitz (pictured), who blew a shot from the left slot home in the final minute of the first period to put HU ahead (for good, as it developed).
The game stayed a tenuous 1-0 until late in the second period when, with HU on the power play, Adams, fed Zurn perfectly for his ninth goal of the season at 18:17 and it was suddenly 2-0.
The homestanding Yellowjackets scored early in the third period but that was all HU goalieÂ
Justin Quale would allow. The freshman stayed tough from there, finishing with 31 saves. When UWS finally pulled their goalie, Adams ended their hopes with an empty netter for his eighth goal of the year.Â
Hamline is off until December 4 when they play at St. Thomas (7:30 p.m.). The teams will play at Oscar Johnson the next night at 7:00 p.m.
