W Hockey Breaks Fast But Falls to Late UST Rally

12/4/2015 9:43:00 PM

Box Score The Hamline women's hockey team shot from the gate fast but St. Thomas rallied for three third period goals and dealt the Pipers their first MIAC loss, 4-2, Friday night at Oscar Johnson Arena.

Jaimee Nowicki and Jena Kosley gave HU a 2-0 lead eight minutes into the game. Nowicki started the onslaught when she flipped a long shot that eluded the UST goalie at 3:31. Five minutes later, with HU on the power play, Kosley finished off a nice three-way passing play for her second netter.

The Tommies, the preseason favorite to win the conference, responded with a second period tally and then scored three times in the final nine minutes of the game. HU goalie Jessica Cole (pictured) kept the Tommies at bay all night, making a career high 38 saves.

HU, which saw its five-game unbeaten string end, is now 4-3-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the MIAC. The teams will meet again Saturday at St. Thomas' rink. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
