Box Score Zach Smith scored a dozen points and
Austin Johnson (pictured) added 11 but Carleton rallied late to nick the Hamline men's basketball team, 57-54, Wednesday in Northfield. The Pipers' three-game winning streak came to an end with the decision. HU is now 10-12 on the season and 7-10 in the MIAC.
For a long time in the second half, it looked like a happy return home for HU head coach
Jim Hayes, who was a long time Carleton assistant. After trailing by as many as six points early, Hamline whittled the Knight lead to 27-26 at halftime. HU came out of the chute fast, scoring eight of the first 10 points in the second stanza for a 34-29 lead. Hamline eventually pushed the edge to nine points at 43-34 before the home standing Knights began to rally. A 10-0 gave Carleton a 50-46 lead with 2:34 remaining. The Pipers chopped away, getting within one on a
Dylan See-Rockers layup with 13 seconds left.
The Pipers were forced to foul and the Knights made their two shots. HU came down for a last look but
Dior Ford couldn't connect on his three-point try. Hamline did a good job covering the ball, committing just seven turnovers.
HU returns home for their final two games at Hutton Arena. The Pipers will face St. Olaf Saturday at 3 p.m. Augsburg is here for the home finale on Monday, February 16 at 7:00 p.m.
