2/7/2015 5:03:00 PM

Box Score It took a long time to do so but Hamline men's basketball team shook off a determined Macalester team for a 68-58 victory Saturday at Leonard Center. Dior Ford (32) led a trio of Pipers in double figures with 18 points. The senior forward also had a team high 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.  Austin Johnson had a dozen points and Zach Smith delivered 11 to help Hamline improve to 9-11 overall, 6-9 in the MIAC.

The Pipers shot just 41 per cent from the field but held a 37-31 rebounding edge to win their second game in a row.

Down 30-29 at halftime, the Pipers flew out of the gate at the start of the second half with a 18-4 run to lead 47-34 with seven and a half minutes gone. The lead stayed in double digits most of the remainder of the game. The closest Mac got was eight points.

Hamline was golden at the free throw line, connecting on 13 of 14 tries.

HU, which has already matched its win total for all of last season,  will go for three wins in a row on Monday, February 9 when they host St. John's at Hutton Arena. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
