Box Score Move over, Renae Mueller. You've got company. Side memo to Christine Walsten. You're next on Chloe Graves' list as she moved up the charts for most assists in a career.
Sorry about that, Kara Poirier. At least it is a player you are coaching -- Chelsey Bonsante -- who passed you on the all-time scoring list.
The junior guards moved up the ladder in the school's record book Wednesday in a 70-55 loss at St. Mary's. Graves was her usual inexhaustable self, playing 39 minutes and scoring 14 points. She also had a pair of assists to advance to 218 for her career -- one shy of Walsten, who played from 2000-04 and is in fourth place.
Bonsante threw in 15 points and added eight rebounds to lead Hamline in both departments. She now has 942 points in her career, passing Poirier for 10th place on the list.
The Pipers caught the Cardinals coming off their first loss of the season four days before. SMU jumped to an 18-6 lead after a quarter and pushed it to 40-21 by intermission. SMU kept it up in the second half and dropped the Pipers to 3-13 overall, 1-8 in the MIAC. The Pipers did record a season high 49 rebounds, had a dozen assists and six steals. (Haley Greene pilfered three herself.)
Hamline now gets back on familiar terrain Saturday when they host St. Catherine at Hutton Arena. HU, which plays four of its next six games at home, won the first meeting, 63-57 in St. Paul on December 5.
