10/24/2016 8:26:00 PM

Box Score A tall Hamline front wall showed the way Monday as the Pipers recorded a solid .288 attack percentage en route to a 3-0 victory over Wis-Superior at Hutton Arena. 6-1 Beth Goodman had 13 kills and hit an impressive .417 to lead the offense as HU improved to 11-9 on the season. Cass Bittle, who is also 6-1, was close behind with 10 kills and a .364 attack percentage. Julia Zolnosky went over the 200 mark in kills for the season with 10.

Morgen Coleman had 36 assists and 10 digs. Amelia Jensen led the back border patrol with 24 digs.

The Pipers came out swinging, jumping to a quick 8-2 lead in the initial set. They expanded it to 19-9 before the Yellowjackets began to chip away, getting within three at 21-18. Hamline then regrouped for a 25-19 win.

The middle set was one of the best seen all year at Hutton. Neither team led by more than two points at any juncture. There were 15 tie scores and six lead changes. Hamline had to fight off three set points before scoring the last three markers for a 29-27 decision.

The third set started in a similar fashion. It was 9-9 when Hamline stung the Yellowjackets with a 11-1 run en route to a 25-12 victory. The Pipers committed just one error in the set. In addition to the solid hitting percentage, Hamline also had 10 service aces spread out among eight players.

The decision meant that HU is guaranteed to finish the season with a winning percentage for the third time in Becky Egan's four year tenure as head coach. The Pipers now head back into MIAC action with a key match against Gustavus Adolphus Wednesday, October 26 at Hutton Arena. HU is part of a three way seventh place deadlock with a 4-5 MIAC mark. Bethel is currently in sixth place -- the last playoff spot -- with a 5-5 league mark. Carleton is in fifth place but just a game ahead at 5-4. Game time Wednesday is 7:00 p.m.
