Box Score The HU men's hockey team showed they can go toe-to-toe with the defending league champs on the first night of the season.
Justin Quale had 36 saves -- including five in overtime -- as the Pipers battled Augsburg to a 2-2 OT tie on the first day of the MIAC Hockey Shootout in Blaine Friday night. Augsburg won the shootout, 1-0 but the score officially goes in the books as a tie and does not count in the MIAC standings.

Wahlin opened the scoring as he finished off a three-way play with
Mitch McPherson and
Russ Jordan 4:06 into the game. The Auggies, who eliminated the Pipers in the MIAC semifinals last year, came back with a goal in the second period and took the lead midway in the final frame. Monsef, a senior, tied matters at 16:04. The game rolled into overtime where Quale, a sophomore, hung tough to earn the draw.Â
Wahlin led Hamline's 26 shot attack with seven.Â
Hamline will face Bethel on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in their second game in the event. The Pipers then open conference play on Friday, November 4 against St. Olaf at Oscar Johnson Arena.Â
