W Soccer Season Ends at Augsburg

Box Score The Hamline women's soccer team's first ever playoff appearance saw a spirited effort that ended in a 2-0 loss at Augsburg Tuesday. The Pipers (11-7-1) had 10 total shots -- half of which were on goal -- but it was the third seeded Auggies who converted with one tally in each half to move to the MIAC semifinals Wednesday at Bethel.

Malya Hirshkowitz -- one of six seniors who finished their career with Hamline Tuesday -- led the attack with three shots, two of which were on goal. Amy Ramras, also a senior, had four saves in goal to finish with 176 -- fourth best in school history. 

The homestanding Auggies (15-4-0) scored a goal in each half. Augsburg dominated the first half with Ramras keeping things tight at 1-0. After Augsburg scored early in the second half to make it 2-0, the Pipers began to press the issue more and more, The best chance came in the 76th minute when Melissa Johnson chipped a shot that went behind the Augsburg goalie but struck a defender and stayed out of the net. The Pipers had five corner kicks as well. 

Despite the disappointing finish, it weas a season to cherish for the Pipers. Their 11 overall wins ranks as the second best total in school history. In addition to Hirshkowitz and Ramras, HU loses Grace Nichols, Mackenzie Zink, Mallory Wirth and Rachael Nelson to graduation.
