Balanced Attack Leads W Basketball Past Knights

Box Score The Hamline women's basketball team reversed the script Saturday -- and it paid off with an impressive 75-50 win at Carleton. 

The Pipers shot to a five point lead after a quarter and extended it to 36-29 by halftime. The Knights made a brief run at HU in the third quarter but the Pipers turned on the after burners and and broke away to even their record at 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the MIAC. 

Alaina Quaranta led a balanced offensive attack with 16 points with Tia Diggins adding a career high15 markers. Ivannie Robertson (with ball) had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The ballhawks were present and accounted for as well, tying their season high with 13 steals. Reilly Geistfeld led that brigade with five. The Pipers also pressured Carleton into 18 turnovers. Hamline held a whopping 20-2 edge in points off turnovers.

Diggins provided the early spark with seven first quarter points to propel HU to a 20-15 edge after 10 minutes. HU broke fast in the third quarter with an 8-2 run that stretched the lead to 13 points. The Knights whittled the lead to six but Chloe Graves ended the run with a three-pointer that would be the last points of the period. The lead ballooned to 13 in the first 90 seconds of the fourth quarter and Hamline never looked back again.

Graves had five assists in the game and now has 290 for her career. The senior guard is just eight shy of the all-time record set by Nikki Klinck, who played for HU from 2007-11. 

A win like this is usually one to cherish for a while. However, HU will will need to shift gears quickly. They visit Wis-River Falls Monday night for a non-conference affair. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
