Box Score The second period has been the best scoring period all season for the Hamline men's hockey team with 13 goals scored. Unfortunately, it is also the best period for St. Thomas, who scored a pair in the first minute of the middle period and used it to hold off the Pipers, 3-2, Friday night at Oscar Johnson Arena. Brandon Wahlin (13) and Jaycob McCombs netted for the Pipers, who fell to 6-2-2 overall and 3-2-0 in the MIAC.

Justin Quale was superb in the first period, making 12 saves in that session and 24 for the game.

It was a raucous affair with 16 penalties whistled. The Pipers had three power plays in the third period that went to no avail, mainly due to the efforts of UST goalie Andrew Rohkol.

HU survived taking two penalties int he first 4:13 of play to survive a scoreless first frame. The Tommies clicked twice 13 seconds in the first 53 seconds of the middle period to grab the lead. Wahlin halved that with the prettiest goal of the night, deking a defenseman and depositing his sixth goal of the season at 7:57.

It stayed 2-1 until late in the third period when the Tommies went ahead 3-1. Quale was pulled for a sixth attacker with McCombs banging one in at 19:54 to wrap up the scoring. Russ Jordan led Hamline's 31 shot assault with seven.

The team face off again Saturday at St. Thomas' arena in Mendota Heights. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
