Box Score The Hamline men's hockey team rallied from an early deficit to force a 3-3 tie. The second deficit proved too much to handle and the Pipers ended up with a 6-4 loss Saturday night at St. Thomas.
Garrett Schmitz (pictured),
Russ Jordan,
Brandon Reinholz and
Cody Bentzel scored for the Pipers, who dropped to 6-3-2 overall and 3-3-0 in the MIAC.
The Pipers fell into a quick 2-0 hole but Schmitz and Jordan responded with goals 10 minutes apart to even matters after a period. In the middle frame, UST went ahead only to see Reinholz nail an unassisted goal to force a second deadlock. The Tommies replied with two tallies before the end of the second period and another in the third. Bentzel's blue line bullet in the final seconds of the game ended the scoring.
Justin Quale started in goal but
John Sellie-Hanson replaced him in the game's fifth minute and stayed in the net the rest of the way, making 27 saves. The Pipers fired 41 shots at the UST net with Schmitz and
Mitch McPherson leading the way with six each.
It is the Pipers' last MIAC game for six weeks but they are not done yet with games in 2016. HU hosts Wis-Eau Claire on Friday, December 9 at Oscar Johnson Arena. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
