Box Score The HU men's hockey team fell into an early hole and couldn't get out in an 8-2 loss at Augsburg Friday night. Kevin Novakovich and Jesse Kessler scored for the Pipers, who were outshot 39-30 by the Auggies, who remain in first place in the MIAC.
Two goals less than three minutes apart late in the first period broke up a scoreless tie. Augsburg added two more in the second before Novakovich for HU on the board with his fifth goal of the season.Â
In the third period, the home standing Auggies scored four more times before Kessler netted his seventh of the season.
John Sellie-Hanson had 31 saves in the Piper goal. Jaycob McCombs led Hamline's 30 shot attack with six.
Hamline fell to 5-7-1 in the MIAC (8-10-4 overall), dropping two points behind fifth place St. Mary's, a winner at Gustavus.Â
The Pipers host the Auggies at Oscar Johnson Arena Saturday. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
