Dionne, Almquist Stand Out In LAX Win Over Augsburg

4/15/2016 7:24:00 PM

Box Score They have won games by larger margins. But it is unlikely that any of the six wins Hamline has recorded in its maiden voyage as a Division III women's lacrosse entry has meant more than Friday's 10-8 win over Augsburg at Klas Field.

The Pipers avenged a two goal setback suffered last month in Minneapolis. More importantly, it cam agtainst a program in its third year of existence. And HU did so with their leading pointgetter (Maddie Brown) sidelined with an injury.

Much of the credit goes to goalie Molly Dionne (pictured), who recorded 12 saves -- seven in the first half alone -- as the Pipers evened their 2016 mark at 6-6.

Dana Almquist supplied half the offense with five goals to increase her team leading total to 36. Lexus Tatge and Jordan Nielsen added two each with Alicia Monserrate Novotny supplying the other tally.

It was a defensive battle all night. It took seven and a half minutes before a goal was scored by Augsburg. Almquist replied twice for HU but the Auggies came right back with four in a row. By halftime, the visitors led, 6-4.

After Tatge and Augsburg's Izzy Snow exchanged goals, Almquist scored twice as part of 5-1 stretch run that gave Hamline the verdict.

The Pipers continue a four-game homestand Wednesday night when they welcome a future MWLC divisional foe -- Wartburg -- to Klas Field. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
