Lacrosse Heats Up Klas Field in Home Debut

Box Score It may have been chilly on the outside but the Hamline women's lacrosse team had plenty to feel warm about on the inside. Playing their first varsity game ever at Klas Field, the Pipers roared to a 14-3 halftime lead and defeated Northwestern (Minn.), 18-5, Tuesday. 

Dana Almquist had her second straight seven goal game with Lexus Tatge adding four and Alicia Monserrate Novotny (pictured) adding three to help HU to improve to 5-4 in its first season on the varsity level. 

Almquist, a sophomore, scored the first two goals for the Pipers. After Jordyn Broberg responded for the Eagles, Monserrate Novotny and Almquist tallied 38 seconds and the Pipers were well on their way. Almquist, who now has 23 goals on the season, really hit her stride late in the first half, scoring three times in the final 6:05 of the opening session to put HU in a commanding position. By intermission, Monserrate Novotny had netted her trio of goals. Jordan Nielsen added two with Tatge and Maddie Brown, the team leader with 24, adding solos. 

Tatge added three in the second half and Katie Pearson one in the second stanza. Molly Dionne recorded three saves in goal for HU. 

Hamline outshot the Eagles, 36-13, on the evening. 

The Pipers, who are playing as aqn independent this season, head on th eroad this weekend with games at Concordia (WI) on Saturday, April 9 and Illinois Tech on Sunday, April 10.
