The track and field season finished on a record-setting note for the Hamline Pipers men's team.
Â
Travis Jacobson finished in fifth place to lead a threesome of HU throwers that earned All-American honors in the shot put May 27 at the NCAA Division III Track & Field meet held at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
Jacobson, a sophomore from Pequot Lakes, Minn., threw 55-9 3/4 feet, a career high to lead the way for HU. He was closely followed by Eric Dols, a freshman from Prior Lake, Minn., who went 55-7 (topping his previous best by more than two feet) to finish in sixth place. Chase Duwenhoegger, a sophomore from Alexandria, Minn., earned the third AA honor with an eighth place finish for his 54-10 throw.
Â
It was the second AA honor this year for Dols, who was fourth in the same event at the NCAA D-III Indoor Meet in March. It also marked the first time in 37 years Hamline had earned three AA honors in the same event at a NCAA meet.
Â
At the end of Friday's results, Hamline is the only MIAC men's team with any points at the meet. The Pipers are currently tied with Mount Union for 14th place with eight points.
Â
On the women's side, Carolyn Saulsberry barely missed qualifying for the 100 Meter Hurdles finals. The Minneapolis, Minn. senior ran the event in 14.40, missing making Saturday's finals by a mere .02 of a second.
