Lacrosse Ends Successful Season On Winning Note

Box Score The 2016 Hamline lacrosse season ended the way it started -- with Maddie Brown scoring gobs of goals. The freshman scored five times with Lexus Tatge and Hayley Springer adding four each as the Pipers defeated Northwestern, 16-4, in Roseville Tuesday night. Head coach Karen Heggernes ended her first season heading a Piper varsity unit that finished with an impressive 10-6 overall mark. 

Brown, who scored a school record eight goals in the season opening win over Beloit, ended the season with 44 goals and 14 assists for 58 points, second only to Dana Almquist, who netted 53 tallies and added six assists for 59 points. 

The Pipers jumped the homestanding Eagles for three goals in the first 6:44 of play and never looked back. Brown, a freshman from Burnsville, Minn. had four tallies by halftime which ended with HU leading by10-3. The Lakeville South graduate registered the first goal of the second half as well as the Pipers controlled play, outshooting the Eagles, 30-22. Molly Dionne recorded 11 saves, finishing the season with a 8.56 goals against average. The freshman played every minute of the season in goal,  recording 125 saves. 

Hamline finishes the season with a school record five-game winning streak.

The Pipers lose six players to graduation -- Springer, Jordan Nielsen, Rachel Todd, Mckenzie Dockter, Megan Gjere and Monica Lannon.

Hamline played as an independent team this year. In 2017, HU will move into the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference.
