Womens BB Has Solid Defensive Effort Against Blazers

1/18/2017 10:09:00 PM

Box Score The HU women's basketball team had one of its best defensive performances of the season Wednesday in a 58-47 loss to St. Benedict in St. Joseph Wednesday night. The Pipers held the Blazers to just 35.3 per cent shooting from the field and stayed close for a half before giving way to fall to 5-11 on the season, 2-7 in the MIAC.

Chloe Graves and Alaina Quaranta led the Piper attack with 13 points apiece. Graves passed her former back court mate Chelsey Bonsante for 10th place all-time with 1,053 career points. In addition to her offense, the senior guard had a team high seven assists, and five steals and tied for the lead in rebounds with five. Quaranta, who leads HU in scoring, connected on three three-pointers and also had four rebounds. There were two ties in a first quarter that ended with CSB holding a slim 11-9 advantage. The Blazers pushed the advantage to eight points but HU chewed away at it and the margin was five at halftime at 26-21.

The third quarter, however, was problematical as CSB bolted to a 12-6 run in the first 61/2 minutes of the session to grab an 11-point lead. The Pipers could only get within nine after that.

In addition to Graves, Morgen Coleman also grabbed five rebounds.

Hamline stays on the road Saturday, traveling to Arden Hills to face Bethel. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
