1/18/2017 9:44:00 PM

Box Score The HU women's hockey team exploded for three goals in a six and a half minute span in the second period and that was enough to carry them to a 3-1 win over St. Benedict in St. Cloud Wednesday night.

Bre Simon, Brede Postier and Emily Gunderson did the damage as Hamline jumped into a tie for third place in MIAC play with a 5-3 record and evened the overall slate at 7-7-1. The Pipers have 10 points as does Gustavus Adolphus (4-2-2).

Jessica Cole gave up a first period goal but nothing else, recording 12 saves in goal.

The Pipers trailed 1-0 in that middle frame when Simon connected for her team high10th goal of the season on a power play at 5:56. A little over five minutes later, Postier finished off a three-way play to give Hamline the lead for good at 2-1. Gunderson, playing in just her fifth game, scored her second goal 72 seconds later and HU took charge from there.

The Piper penalty killers had another solid effort, killing off all three player disadvantages. Jaci Reinke led Hamline's 26 shot attack with five.

Hamline returns to the ice this weekend against St. Mary's (4-9-2, 1-5-2 MIAC). The teams face off at Oscar Johnson Arena Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and then make a quick turnaround in Winona the next afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
