Box Score It was a night to remember for
Chloe Graves -- and the Hamline women's basketball team.
The senior guard became the 12th women's hoopster in school history to score 1,000 points for her career when she rattled in 10 as the Pipers jumped on St. Olaf early and never let up for an impressive 85-65 win Wednesday night in Northfield. Graves shared top billing with four other Pipers who also finished in double digits for scoring.
Alaina Quaranta led with 15 while
Tia Diggins and
Reilly Geistfeld delivered 14 and
Kaeli Stayer contributed 12 points. Geistfeld also had a team high nine rebounds with Quaranta the top thief with four steals.
Playing in her 87th career game, Graves needed five points to join the 1,000 point club. She got there with a jumper early in the third quarter and added five more before she was done. She also increased her career leading total in assists to 308 with a game high nine helpers. The Denver, Col. native is also in the Top Ten all-time in Three-Pointers Made (fifth, 131) and Free Throws made (seventh, 203).
The Pipers shot out of the gate quickly and never let the Oles get started. HU led 9-0 after 3:36 of play and added to the margin to lead 20-8 at quarter's end. The lead ballooned to 44-27 at halftime and 67-45 after three quarters. HU was solid from the field with a 46.3 field goal percentage and even better on defense, holding the Oles down to just 35 per cent from the field and just 6-27 from three-point range. Stayer hit four three-pointers for HU and now stands fourth in the MIAC with 22 made.
As a result, Hamline is now 5-7 overall, 2-3 in the MIAC.
The Pipers return home for their first game at Hutton Arena in a month on Saturday, January 7 against Concordia. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
