Box Score The HU men's hockey team started fast but Gustavus Adolphus caught later fire and defeated the Pipers, 5-2, Friday night in St. Peter. 

Kyle Wendorf and Mitch McPherson gave the Pipers a 2-0 lead 10:06 into the game. GAC, however, responded with a pair of tallies 2:48 apart late in the period to tie the game and then took the lead with a pair of goals 21 seconds apart in the first five minutes of the middle frame. An empty netter sealed the matter and HU dropped to 1-1 in MIAC play and 3-3 overall. 

Justin Quale recorded 26 saves in the Hamline goal, 14 in the third period alone. The Pipers fired 11 shots on goal in the first period but were held to 12 total in the final 40 minutes of play. Cody Bentzel was the top sniper with four shots on goal.

The teams face off again Saturday night in the Pipers' home opener at Oscar Johnson Arena. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
